Welcome to The Sofa After Dark
Right, so this is The Sofa After Dark.
Which sounds much more mysterious than it actually is. Basically, the kids have gone to bed, the washing has been ignored for long enough that it has probably developed its own ecosystem, and I’ve decided that this is an appropriate time to talk about the things we probably shouldn’t be talking about.
Because there are some conversations you just don’t have at 2pm on a Tuesday.
You know the ones.
The thoughts that appear when you’re lying in bed staring at the ceiling. The things you probably wouldn’t admit to your friends until you’ve had a couple of drinks. The questions you Google and then immediately clear from your search history because apparently your phone doesn’t need to know everything about you.
Relationships. Sex. Getting older. Things that annoy the shit out of you. Things you thought would be exciting but actually turned out to involve quite a lot of admin. Things you absolutely should know by now but somehow still don’t.
And those moments where you suddenly think...
“Is this normal?”
I have absolutely no idea.
But I suspect I’m not the only one.
That’s basically what The Sofa After Dark is about.
The slightly awkward stuff. The funny stuff. The honest stuff. The stuff we think about but don’t always say out loud because we’re all pretending to have our shit together.
Which, let’s be honest, is exhausting.
So this is the place where we can stop pretending for a bit. No life coaches. No pretending I have all the answers. No “five easy steps to completely transform your life” because if there were five easy steps, I’m fairly sure I would have done them by now.
Just honest conversations, questionable thoughts, a bit of humour and probably the occasional “Oh God, did I really just write that?”
So grab a drink. Get comfortable.
And welcome to the slightly less respectable end of the sofa.
The Sofa After Dark.
Because apparently this is what happens when I’m left unsupervised after 10pm.
